I've been meaning to write for ages but have been procrastinating clearly. The last time I wrote was before the Christmas holiday and now it is a good week after the Chinese New Year holiday. But, now I'm finally writing!
For the Christmas holiday, I decided to stay in Hong Kong. While a few of my friends and roommates travelled to England, Thailand, and Japan, I stayed and relaxed. It was great to just chill and have some time to myself. I was able to pick up some extra shifts with Crisis Text Line (CTL) as well. Picking up these extra shifts really showed me how the holidays can really affect someone. CTL was busier than usual and every person I talked to said that the holidays were adding extra stress into their lives.
It was nice to pick up some extra shifts during the holidays even though it didn't feel like the holidays at all. My friend Tristina and I spent Christmas together and thought we would be homesick but that wasn't the case at all. There wasn't the same Christmas feel In Hong Kong as there is in the States. It was strange but fortunately, Gabby was able to make it to Hong Kong for New Years.
While Gabby was in Hong Kong, her mom and two sisters were visiting. So, I tagged along and pretended to be a Sheltraw for a couple of days! We went to all the touristy spots such as the different markets and the Big Buddha. It was nice to spend time with a family and people from home.
After the Christmas holiday, January seemed to fly by. I had a total of six lessons during the entire month of January. I had four regular lessons and two extracurricular lessons. In addition to that, I didn't have much paperwork to mark so for most of January, I did absolutely nothing. Not an exaggeration. I didn't have any work so I caught up on reading and watched a couple of movies.
But the month passed until it was finally Chinese New Year! The plan was for Edel to come visit me for Chinese New Year but trouble with her visa stopped that from happening. Edel and I both had trouble with obtaining of visa to mainland China but I was successful and am excited to visit Shenzhen and maybe Shanghai and Beijing.
Since Edel didn't come to Hong Kong, I spent Chinese New Year with my friends who were still here for the holiday. I woke up at 6 AM in order to watch the Super Bowl, I hiked Dragon Back, and saw the fireworks in TST. It was interesting seeing how they celebrate Chinese New Year and sadly the week came to an end.
It's been a struggle getting back into the vibe of lessons since I haven't taught properly in a month but soon enough it will be March 23 and we will have another week and a half off for Easter Break. I'm really really looking forward to this break because I will be traveling for the first time in Asia! I will be going to Singapore and the Philippines to visit Nigel and my family. I'm really excited for this and can't wait to get some sun!
Just traveling the world and sharing my adventures and experiences.
