Restaurant Highlight: The Restaurant Without A Name

9/29/2015

Woah, it has been awhile since I posted anything.  My bad!  Last week I went to one of the best restaurants of my life.  Not an exaggeration at all.  I would post the name of the restaurants in my "About" section of my website but this restaurant doesn't have a name.  It was a proper dive in a way and is a secret restaurant.

Because a lot of secret restaurants don't want a huge amount of publicity, I will not write how to get there or where it is located.  I will tell you that it is pretty much someone's apartment.  There isn't a huge sign on the door indicating that it is a restaurant.  You just knock and they let you into this apartment that they have made into a restaurant with a couple tables.

It has been exactly one month since I landed at Hong Kong International Airport.  It's crazy that I've been here for a month already.  I sometimes don't believe it because I feel like I've been here for a longer time.

This past weekend, I was able to go on a Junk Boat, which is a type of boat that was created in ancient China.  They look pretty different today but there are still some that resemble the original design.  You can take a Junk Boat from different sea ports in Hong Kong.  The one I took was from Aberdeen, which is in the southern part of Hong Kong Island.  From Aberdeen, we travelled through the Aberdeen Chanel to get to Stanley Pier where we picked someone up then we went to our final destination in Tai Tam Bay.

Taking a Junk Boat is a whole day excursion.  We left at 11 AM and didn't get back until 6 PM.  The on-deck hands were great too!  They had snacks when we got on the boat then once we were in Tai Tam Bay, they started cooking our lunch which was sooooo good.  Then on the way back they had more food for us.  Also, throughout the day, they would go around and see if we needed more drinks.  It was also nice to go into the water on such a hot day.

Excursion Highlight: Ten Thousand Buddha Monastery

Yesterday, I was able to visit the Ten Thousand Buddha Monastery.  Although it isn't an actual monastery, nevertheless it was a beautiful excursion.  It has been raining the last couple weeks with only a few days with sunshine.  Yesterday was one of those days so my friends and I decided to take a trip to the Ten Thousand Buddha Monastery.

The Monastery is relatively new compared to other structures in Hong Kong.  Venerable Yuet Kai founded this monastery and started building it in 1933.  He finally completed the monastery in 1957.  Therefore, the monastery is roughly 60 or so years old and it is in great shape still.

"Back To School...

...back to school, to prove to Dad that I'm not a fool.  I got my lunch packed up, my shoes tied tight, I hope I don't get in a fight."

It's weird going back to school as a teacher rather than a student.  I have different responsibilities and see a different side to public schools.  With that being said, the schools here are different than the schools back home in America.  I'm still adjusting and learning the differences but luckily the other English teacher here has been explaining a lot about it.

When I first had orientation, my boss told me that everyone has this perception that the children in Asia are very well behaved in school.  Through teaching at UCCCKE and CCC Kei Wai Ma Wan, I can say no they are not 100% perfect students because they are still children.  However, they are most definitely well behaved.
